Why ethanol as a fuel source?

Biodegradability:

Ethanol is biodegradable, meaning it can break down naturally in the environment. This characteristic can reduce the environmental impact in case of spills or leaks compared to some petroleum-based fuels.

Compatibility:

Ethanol can be blended with gasoline to create ethanol-petrol blends, such as E10 (10% ethanol, 90% gasoline) or E85 (85% ethanol, 15% gasoline). These blends can be used in conventional petrol engines with little to no modification, making it compatible with existing infrastructure.

Reduced Gas Emissions:

When compared to traditional fossil fuels, ethanol combustion generally produces lower levels of greenhouse gas emissions. It releases carbon dioxide and water vapour, but the overall impact is often considered less environmentally harmful than burning fossil fuels.

Cleaner Combustion:

Ethanol generally burns more cleanly than traditional fossil fuels, producing fewer pollutants and particulate matter. This can contribute to improved air quality.

Energy Independence:

Using ethanol as a fuel can contribute to reducing dependence on non-renewable fossil fuels, enhancing energy independence for countries.

Support for Agriculture:

Ethanol production often involves crops like corn and sugarcane. This provides economic support to the agricultural sector and can contribute to rural development.

Renewable Resource:

Ethanol is primarily derived from plant sources, such as corn, sugarcane, or other biomass. Since these sources can be replenished, ethanol is considered a renewable and sustainable fuel.

Frequently asked questions

Damage can be caused to your engine if you are using ethanol in a ratio higher than your vehicle manufacturer suggests or if you have not modified your vehicle accordingly. Additionally, it is important that you check and maintain your vehicle to prevent damage.

Yes, older pipes can leak due to degradation and may not compensate for the fuel air ratio due to the higher oxygen content within the ethanol. Most newer cars have been manufactured to deal with this.

Yes, ethanol attracts water, and this can cause engine issues, so the ethanol must not be left to stand in the vehicle for a long period of time.
